Smoky Mountain Horse Show Series
FAQs
01
What time does the show start?
Our show schedule and start time vary according to the time of year. Our cooler weather shows will start at 9 while our summer shows will begin promptly at 8. The ring is always open for schooling before each show!
02
Will the arena be open for schooling?
The arena will always open each morning before the show begins with a dedicated hour to two hours of schooling. We always reserve the last 15 minutes of schooling for our beginner riders who walk/trot only.
03
May I lunge my horse before the show?
Yes! Please do, if it will make your day go smoother. We simply ask that no lunging occurs in the riding arena. It is a safety concern for our horse show insurance! If you are not sure where to lunge, please ask show management or the show secretary.

04
Can I pre-enter before the show?
Yes! Each show will have a "Jot Form" available beforehand. Pre-entries give management an idea of how many participants will be in each class. As we all know, plans can change and pre-entries are non binding. You may add or scratch classes at any point during the show.
05 Can I become a SMHSS member mid-season?
Yes! With the variety of shows we have planned throughout the year, there are plenty of points opportunities.
SMHSS members enjoy reduced show rates throughout the season.
06 Can someone help me enter appropriate classes?
Definitely! Our show management and secretary can help you select classes that are appropriate if you are not
sure. We also are more than happy to help with questions about tack or rules!
07 Are overnight stalls available?
Yes, we do have the option of overnight stalls at all venues. Email AdamoEq@gmail.com for stall reservations.
08 Do I need to wear a helmet when showing?
Under most circumstances, yes! We aim to promote safe horsemanship and promote a good example for our
younger competitors. All youth under the age of 18 must wear a helmet any time when mounted, anyone showing
English or over fences must wear a helmet. Adults showing in Western or Gaited classes may use their better
judgment.
09 Do I have to wear proper show attire to show?
SMHSS is a schooling series that is run like a rated show. Proper turnout of both horse and rider is encouraged.
Clothing should fit and be tidy. Proper show attire should be worn at any and all times possible. Polo shirts and half
chaps are acceptable. Tack should be safe and well-fitted. We do wave coats in the heat and allow outerwear in
inclement conditions.
10 What prizes and ribbons are offered at each show?
In addition to our regular ribbons each regular member show throughout the season will feature High Point
awards, and Champion and Reserve Champion awards for the English divisions. Year end awards will be awarded
in each category with points accumulating throughout the year. Finals show points will factor in for year-end
awards.
